Transportation demand management (TDM) is a set of strategies designed to maximize the use of the transportation system. The purpose of TDM is to reduce the number of vehicles using the roadway system while providing a variety of travel options. TDM strategies can influence the time of travel, the mode of travel, or the need to travel altogether. Common strategies include carpools and vanpools and employer incentives to support ridesharing. In the project area, the Bucks County TMA and the Greater Mercer TMA work with employers and commuters to support TDM in the workplace. Both organizations are members of the Commission’s Interagency Advisory Committee (IAC) for the project. These two TMAs are working with the Commission to determine how the Commission can incorporate TDM in this Improvement Project. In addition, the Commission met with representatives of major corporations to discuss the project and heard suggestions from the business community about how the project can support TDM and transit initiatives.
